Look new it does not, but the largely unchanged exterior of the Hyundai ix35 covers significant improvements  to ride and handling under the skin

Business Car Manager car review verdict

It’s hard to fault Hyundai for building on a model that is already successful and only three years old since launch, but the results hardly look ‘new’ in the metal, apart from LED running lights.

That aside, the suspension revisions under the skin have significantly enhanced the ride and handling.

While it will never feel fast, the Hyundai ix35 behaves well on the open road and with the lighter, FLEX STEER steering system set to ‘normal’, becomes an excellent city vehicle.

Combined with better audio and generous levels of standard equipment, and reasonable emissions and economy for this segment of vehicle, the overall package of the ix35 remains very attractive.

While many will look to the top level ‘Premium’ trim, the choice model for company car drivers is probably the SE Nav (£19,494), because the wheels and tyres are a bit smaller, so it’s a bit more comfortable and company car tax drops from 24% to 22%.

The 1.7 litre diesel engine is the choice pick here, with the right amount of torque to power the tall SUV, although it is gruff under load.

The new 2.0 litre unit is also worth considering. Anyone in the market for this vehicle will want to test drive it alongside the Nissan Qashqai and Kia Sportage before making a decision.
