This is the face of the new MINI. Thankfully, it looks hardly changed.

But there are many detail changes made to the five-year-old design.

It is slightly longer for improved crash protection.

The headlights are now fixed to the wings. Previously they lifted with the bonnet – and damage was sometimes caused when the bonnet was slammed shut.

It might not look that different, but the Mini has a new design, more interior space, and new engines

Look along the car’s flank and you’ll notice the shoulder line has also been raised.

Inside has also changed. The most striking feature is the large Centre Speedo which also displays the entertainment functions.

Rear passengers get more knee room – thanks to cut outs in the front seats.

There’s a new engine with more performance. And more economy. The Cooper produces 120bhp and the Cooper S 175bhp. The S is now turbocharged rather than supercharged.

Consumption is 48.7mpg for the Cooper (formerly 40.9); for the S it’s 40.9mpg (formerly 32.8). Which also means lower CO2 values – and lower benefit-in-kind tax.

The MINI Cooper and MINI Cooper S will be on sale later this year; the One mid 2007.
