Porsche has confirmed that it will launch a new SUV model with combustion and hybrid drivetrains once combustion-engined models of the current Macan reach the end of their production cycle.

The German brand has always made clear its plan to eventually offer the Macan as an electric-only model. The EV variant launched in 2024 with the combustion-engined models with petrol and hybrid engines, which first went on sale in 2014, continuing in the UK market for the present.

Speaking at Porsche’s annual financial presentation CEO Oliver Blume said that the company stood by the decision to make the Macan all-electric. But reflecting a slowing in pace for the electric transition across the industry, he added that Porsche continuously monitors market development and customer demand and if necessary, adapts its product strategy.

Blume revealed that Porsche is currently evaluating a new SUV line with combustion and hybrid powertrains, which could be launched towards the end of the decade.

“We have renewed five out of six model lines and extensively refreshed our product portfolio – this has laid the foundation for our success in the coming years, with the clear goal of exciting our customers with our iconic sports cars,” Blume said.

“In view of the changed circumstances, we have adjusted our product strategy in all segments,” he added, confirming that Porsche customers will still be able to choose between combustion engines, plug-in hybrids and all-electric drivetrains in every vehicle segment well into the 2030s.

Porsche described its 2024 financial year as delivering a robust result in challenging circumstances. Group sales revenue reached 40.1 billion euros, with a Group Operating profit of 5.6 billion euros and Group operating return on sales of 14.1%.
