AFTER nine years, the new Volvo XC60 SUV has been revealed, successor to the car that became the best-selling premium mid-sized SUV in Europe and ready to retain that title.

Built on the same platform as its big brother — the XC90, on first look the XC60 looks like a scaled down version of Volvo’s big SUV. First of the new ’60’ family, look closer and the XC60 has more muscular detailing to its design down the sides, a lower roofline and a different version of the Volvo family grille.

The likeness to the XC90 carries on in the XC60’s interior, with a similar design of dashboard and the same tablet-like infotainment system. The wood detailing is exceptional!

A Volvo wouldn’t be a Volvo without a full suite of the latest safety kit fitted and the new XC60 is no different, a new safety system called Oncoming Lane Mitigation uses Steer Assist to help mitigate head-on collisions, while Volvo’s Blind Spot Indication System (BLIS) now uses Steer Assist functionality to reduce the risk of lane-changing collisions.

Pilot Assist, Volvo’s advanced semi-autonomous driver-assistance system, which takes care of steering, acceleration and braking on well-marked roads up to 130 km/h, is now available in the new XC60 as an option.

The new XC60 will be launched in the UK this summer, with a choice of four-cylinder diesel and petrol engines and just four-wheel drive at first with two-wheel drive versions to follow later. Prices are expected to start at over £30,000.
