Harrogate ‘MAMILs’ – Middle Aged Men in Lycra – have raised over £8,000 for five charities, smashing their original £5,000 target.
The team of 17 cycled a 160-mile return trip from Harrogate to Scarborough over 2 hours in aid of Yorkshire Air Ambulance, Harrogate Homeless Project, St Michael’s Hospice, NSPCC and Prostate Cancer UK.
Andrew Whiteley, Unofficial Harrogate MAMILs team leader, said;
“It was an exhausting challenge over both days but we’re all delighted to have exceeded our ambitious target of raising £5,000 for some fantastic charities.
“Thank you to everyone who supported us. It was a great team effort and we had a lot of fun along the way.
“A crowd close to 100 MAMIL supporters and well-wishers came together to congratulate their achievement on the Stray finish line in Harrogate on Sunday.
“Speeches and celebrations followed with additional donations from local businesses including a brand new bicycle from Harrogate’s Big Red Bike Company and VIP tickets to the Ripon Races being auctioned off to boost the charitable proceeds.”
Nexus Vehicle Rental sponsored the challenge, with CEO David Brennan, taking part. The company has recently launched a fundraising partnership with the Yorkshire Air Ambulance.
