Nissan has confirmed that its Micra supermini and Leaf family car will both return to showrooms in 2025, as all-new electric-vehicles (EVs).

The new Micra (pictured above) will be first to launch as a model closely related to the newly on-sale Renault 5, the two effectively created as a joint project. Styled at Nissan’s European design studio in London, it follows closely the Micra concept first shown in 2023.

Nissan’s Douai plant in France will manufacture the new Micra which will be sold with 40 and 52 kWh battery options, which according to its makers will give it a maximum range between charges of more than 248 miles.

The third-generation of the Leaf, which when launched in 2010 was regarded as the first true mass-market EV, will like its predecessors be built at Nissan’s UK plant in Sunderland on the brand’s electric platform already used by the larger Ariya, as part of Nissan’s EV36Zero project– a blueprint that will transform the Sunderland facility into a flagship EV hub, bringing together electric vehicles, renewable energy and battery production.

The new Leaf (pictured above) takes a crossover body style significantly different to its predecessors which were hatchback cars. Nissan is yet to release any technical details of the car but industry observers report that it is expected to offer a range in excess of 372 miles.

Nissan has also confirmed that the two 2025 launches will be followed in 2026 by a new electric version of the Juke, the crossover which when originally launched in 2010 took the segment defining success of its Qashgqai sister into a smaller market.

The new Juke will be based on Nissan’s Hyper Punk concept car, unveiled in October 2023 at the Japan Mobility Show.

Leon Dorssers, Nissan’s regional senior vice president for sales & marketing, described the announcement of the three new models as the realisation of a bold plan to electrify Nissan’s range in Europe.

“All the new models will share common Nissan DNA: striking design, technical innovation and intuitive technology – a combination of qualities which we are confident will attract new buyers to Nissan, as well as continuing to appeal to existing customers who already love how Nissan vehicles enrich their daily lives,” Dorssers added.
