NVCRP secures £700k to strengthen response to vehicle crime

The National Vehicle Crime Reduction Partnership (NVCRP) has secured £700,000 in funding from the Home Office and Integrated Security Fund (ISF) to strengthen the UK’s response to organised vehicle crime.

The funding has already supported enforcement, intelligence and operational activity across police forces and national partners.

Funding came from two major Government Grants, the first of which funded a week of coordinated action last November, known as Operation Alliances.

Operation Alliances resulted in the recovery of over £3.3m worth of stolen vehicles and more than 365 arrests.

The grant also created a Ports Problem Profile, which strengthened understanding of vehicle export routes, and helped fund a strategic international conference, bringing police and private industry together to help tackle organised vehicle crime.

The latest ISF grant is currently being used to support specialist operations linked to tackling serious organised crime and will help recover stolen vehicles from containers, before they are exported.

A police training package, developed in partnership with OEMs, will also be developed to strengthen frontline and investigative capabilities.

34 police forces have already bid for funding from the NVCRP to fund local operations.
