Octopus Energy has unveiled its first home electric vehicle (EV) charger, Octopus Charge, marking a major step in the energy company’s expansion into smart home hardware and EV infrastructure.

Launched on 19th June 2025, the new charger integrates with Octopus Energy’s tariff, Intelligent Octopus Go, enabling customers to charge their electric vehicles for as little as 2p per mile.

The charger also links with the company’s Drive Pack tariff, offering unlimited charging for £30 a month.

Initially available to customers of Octopus Electric Vehicles – the group’s EV leasing business – the charger will roll out to all Octopus Energy customers from August.

Rebecca Dibb-Simkin, chief product officer at Octopus Energy, said: “Charging at home is already better than queueing up at the petrol station – and now we’ve made it even simpler.

“Octopus Energy was the first energy company to launch a smart tariff, an EV tariff, an export tariff, and our very own heat pump.

“We’re delighted to add Octopus Charge to our stable, initially designed to work seamlessly with Intelligent Octopus Go, and with other features to follow shortly.”

Designed and built in-house, Octopus Charge is the latest addition to Octopus Energy’s expanding range of home energy tech.

It features built-in 4G connectivity, a custom-designed cable holster, and a compact form to suit driveways, garages and street-side installations.

Smart functionality is powered by Octopus’ Kraken platform and mobile app, allowing users to automate charging schedules based on the cheapest and greenest electricity windows.

Customers can set the desired charge level and timing, with the system handling the rest.

In a further incentive for early adopters, the first customers to sign up will receive 5,000 free miles of charging – equivalent to a round trip from Land’s End to John o’ Groats and back, with mileage to spare.

The charger is also compatible with home solar systems, enabling EVs to be powered using excess solar electricity where available.
