Omoda 9 luxury flagship to cost from £45k
Second model on UK sale showcases 'Super Hybrid' technology.
Omoda has revealed prices and opened order books for its Omoda 9 SHS, an all-wheel-drive luxury SUV that will take the role of the Chinese brand’s flagship model when deliveries begin in June.
The hybrid model will cost from £44,990 on the road, significantly undercutting rivals the BMW X3 and Volvo XC60, and will include Omoda’s standard 7-year/100,000-mile warranty.
The Omoda 9 SHS (Super Hybrid System) employs a self-charging powertrain which its makers say is expected to deliver a WLTP-certified range of more than 700 miles, with an all-electric range of up to 93 miles and CO2 emissions of 40g/km.
Combining two electric motors with a 1.5-litre petrol engine and a new, more energy-dense battery design, the hybrid drivetrain delivers a combined power output of 449hp and 700Nm of torque, giving the Omoda 9 a 0-62mph time of 4.9 seconds. While self-charging the system can also be plugged in.
The Omoda 9 is fitted with a three-speed auto transmission and offers six operating modes (Eco, Normal, Sport, Mud, Snow and Off-Road) to allow it to competently traverse a wide range of driving conditions.
Omoda is taking an ‘everything is standard’ approach to its new model – the safety specification includes 20 ADAS driver aids, while among the advanced technologies fitted are a 540-degree panoramic view camera with transparent view, a 1.3-metre sunroof, air purification, a headrest-equipped, 14-speaker Sony surround-sound system and heated and ventilated seats in front and rear.
The front of the cabin is dominated by a curved 24.6-inch high-definition display combining driver and infotainment functions, while other features include ambient lighting and a cooled wireless charging pad.
Announcing the prices for the new model, Omoda UK country director Victor Zhang described the vehicle as an important step forward; “It is representative of what modern living should be – beautifully designed, intelligently engineered and with technology that is actually usable.”
Zhang added that the drivetrain fitted to the Omoda 9 shows just how far hybrid technology has progressed; “not just in terms of performance and range, but also in how well they fit into people’s lives. Ultimately, we believe this is a car that drives like an EV and thinks like a hybrid.”
