One million drivers now using Octopus Electroverse

One million drivers have now signed up to Octopus Electroverse, where drivers can access nine out of 10 public chargers across Europe.

One in three new cars registered in June was fully electric, according to industry figures from the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT), meaning half of all fully electric cars on UK roads are now plugged into the app, according to Octopus.

Electroverse allows drivers to tap into the public charging network using a single app and card.

Through what is called ‘plunge pricing’, drivers can get discounted charging sessions when there is a lot of renewable electricity but not much demand for it.

Octopus said that this means green power that would otherwise go to waste is used up, while easing pressure on the grid.

Electroverse has run 84 of these cut-price sessions across the UK and France this year to help thousands of drivers charge at up to a 50% discount while supporting a smarter, greener energy system.

Businesses switching their vans and company cars to electric can also turn to Electroverse.

Its Octopus Fleet service lets companies manage public charging and home charging for their whole fleet through one platform.
