Oxfordshire to launch consultation on temporary congestion charge from 23rd June

Residents, businesses and organisations in Oxford will be invited to take part in a public consultation on a proposed temporary congestion charge, with the engagement process set to launch on 23rd June.

The six-week consultation follows approval from Oxfordshire County Council’s cabinet at a meeting on 17th June.

The temporary scheme is intended to reduce traffic congestion and support public transport while Botley Road remains closed until at least August 2026.

The proposal would mirror the locations of the delayed traffic filter trials and make use of existing systems, potentially enabling faster implementation.

Cllr Andrew Gant, Oxfordshire County Council’s Cabinet Member for Transport Management, said: “I’m looking forward to hearing what residents, businesses and visitors have to say about the proposal for temporary congestion charging points while Botley Road remains closed.

“I’m pleased that we’re continuing to consultation on this scheme that could have a significant positive impact on people’s travel in and around the city.

“We must do all we can to improve bus services and reduce overall traffic, to help people get around.”

Under the proposal, people with permits – including carers, traders and blue badge holders – would be able to travel by car into and around the city more easily.
