Alfa Romeo has confirmed prices for the petrol-powered version of its new Junior model, which will go on sale for £6,000 less than the already on-sale electric variants.
Dubbed the Junior Ibrida, which translates to ‘hybrid’ and on sale from £27,895, the new version of Alfa Romeo’s smallest crossover is powered by a petrol engine with 136hp on tap, paired to a 48-volt lithium-ion battery and 21kW electric motor integrated into a six-speed dual-clutch gearbox.
This setup also virtually matches the 0-62mph time of the entry-level Junior EV, thanks to the Ibrida being significantly lighter.
The pricing not only undercuts the existing EV Juniors, which are available with 156hp powertrains from £33,895 or 280hp versions from £42,295, but also retails at £3,000 less than the equivalent version of its Peugeot sister model, the 3008.
Just one specification has so far been announced for the petrol Junior, including diamond cut alloy wheels, LED headlamps and taillamps, rain-sensing wipers, rear parking sensors and keyless entry and starting.
Highlights inside include eight-colour ambient lighting marking, a 10.25-inch configurable instrument cluster and an identically sized driver oriented central screen with Apple Car Play and Android Auto compatibility.
Two option packs are available for the Junior Ibrida. The Technology Pack adds LED matrix headlamps, a wireless phone charging pad, front, rear and side parking sensors and Adaptive Cruise Control with Lane Centering and Traffic Jam Assist.
The Premium Pack offers a cargo flex kit, dark tinted rear windows, leather steering wheel, black painted body kit and heated and massaging seats.
Alfa Romeo pitches the Junior Ibrida as offering Italian style in a compact and practical size, being well-suited for city driving but with the largest boot in its segment with 415 litres of cargo space.
