Peugeot 5008 road test report

Peugeot 5008 2.0 HDi Exclusive

What is it?

PEUGEOT’S chance to step on the toes of Citroen. Peugeot’s new people carrier, the 5008, is gunning for the C4 Grand Picasso – with seven seats and a classy cabin. Sharing many of the same components, including engines, it kicks off at £17,495. Tested here in 150bhp 2.0-litre HDi diesel at £23,195.

What’s hot?

  • Lots of space inside with seven individual seats
  • Second row tilts and slides independently, third row folds into floor
  • In five-seat mode, you’ve got a 1,247-litre boot
  • And with the second row folded flat that rises to 2,506 litres
  • Audi-apeing cabin is very impressive with its wraparound cockpit…
  • …and high-quality materials
  • Panoramic roof gives real feeling of space, optional rear TV screens
  • Diesel is quick (0-60mph in 10secs), returns 49.6mpg and 154g/km CO2
  • Chassis offers lots of grip and a soft ride too

What’s not?

  • There may be lots of grip but there’s not much feedback…
  • …so there’s little fun to be had
  • Looks could split opinion

Business Car Manager Road Test Rating

Peugeot’s second stab at the people carrier market following on from the 3008 is an impressive one. The seven-seater 5008 is comfortable and hugely versatile too. It’s not much fun to drive but with this frugal diesel engine, it makes lots of sense for business drivers with large families – and the company car tax is low enough to keep feeding the children, too!
