Dual-evaporated refrigerated vans recently launched by specialist rental operation FridgeXpress have found a wider appeal beyond the pharmaceutical market they were intended for.

Cold-chain delivery sectors have expressed an interest in the new standard specification of the FridgeXpress rental vans as a means of minimising delivery mileages across fleets.

The new specification was originally specified to meet the stringent requirements the UK’s pharmaceutical industry – a removable mattress bulkhead and dual refrigeration systems enables the vans to transport various loads with diverse refrigeration requirements at the same time.

The vans are described as ideal for transporting loads with temperature sensitive requirements due to the high degree of temperature control offered by their insulation, with the rear doors modified for freeze operations with additional temperature-control sheeting fitted and key-out temperature control which minimises fluctuations when the doors are open.

As a result the vans are proving highly suitable for the transportation of fresh and frozen produce – instead of using separate vehicles to transport chilled and frozen produce delivery companies can now carry loads with distinct refrigeration requirements in a single van, with major reductions in delivery mileages as a result.

The FridgeXpress fresh produce specification is built onto a Mercedes Sprinter chassis and the vans are available for immediate hire on either short or long-term rental agreements. The packages include comprehensive servicing, maintenance, and repair as part of a single monthly rental.

According to FridgeXpress managing director Adam Naylor, the latest vans are proving of major interest to diverse fleets seeking to minimise emissions and increase operational efficiencies.

“Our mission at FridgeXpress is to keep our customers moving smarter, and this latest investment in our fleet will benefit fresh produce companies seeking to maximise efficiency and minimise delivery miles by enabling the transport of multiple types of produce in one vehicle,” Naylor said.

“Fresh and frozen goods no longer need separate transportation, which allows for quicker deliveries and a reduction in delivery miles, it’s a smart solution for the industry”.
