Pilkington Automotive, the leading automotive glass replacement (AGR) distributor and wholesaler, has deployed Ctrack’s fleet and video telematics across its 35-strong commercial vehicle fleet to improve road safety, support driver welfare, increase efficiency and reduce environmental impact. The company is installing the technology in all new vans operating from seven UK sites, including its central distribution hub in Redditch.
“Meeting our customer needs in a safe, efficient and sustainable way is a priority for the business, so it is crucial that our drivers are operating responsibly and abiding by all health and safety requirements,” said Calum Young, operations manager at Pilkington Automotive. “We needed a highly effective and simple-to-use telematics solution, backed by dashcams, to gain peace of mind around employee welfare and fleet performance.”
Pilkington Automotive selected the Ctrack system to replace an older solution that had been bundled with its vehicle procurement. The new platform is now used by two operations managers, with restricted access for regional managers and supervisors. The goal is to monitor driver behaviour and analyse route data to optimise productivity and reduce risk, while also safeguarding drivers and the public.
Front-facing dashcams provide video footage that helps determine liability following incidents and helps the business swiftly check on driver welfare after a collision. Footage is also used to investigate complaints from the public submitted via Pilkington Automotive’s How’s My Driving? safety programme. Combined with telematics data, the system supports targeted driver training and engagement.
“We are already seeing some early benefits in terms of driver protection, claims management and cost reduction, while drivers are acting more vigilantly because of the increased engagement, leading to less high-risk driving incidents. As a result, we believe the Ctrack solution will become an essential part of our fleet performance strategy moving forward,” added Young.
Steve Thomas, managing director of Ctrack UK, said: “Our comprehensive fleet and video telematics offering means we can work closely with our customers to develop solutions that meet their precise operational requirements. With continued advances in the technology, particularly around connectivity and data analysis, we can deliver flexible and user-friendly telematics systems that offer proven safety, efficiency and sustainability improvements.”
