Pilkington Automotive, a distributor and wholesaler in the automotive glass replacement (AGR) sector, has adopted a fleet and video telematics solution from Ctrack as part of its strategy to improve road safety, operational efficiency, and environmental performance.
The telematics system is being rolled out across all new vans in the company’s 35-vehicle commercial fleet, which supports a nationwide delivery service from seven UK locations, including its central distribution centre in Redditch.
Calum Young, operations manager at Pilkington Automotive, said: “Meeting our customer needs in a safe, efficient and sustainable way is a priority for the business, so it is crucial that our drivers are operating responsibly and abiding by all health and safety requirements.
“We needed a highly effective and simple-to-use telematics solution, backed by dashcams, to gain peace of mind around employee welfare and fleet performance.”
The company selected Ctrack to replace its previous telematics system, which had been supplied through its vehicle procurement arrangements.
The new solution is now actively used by two operations managers, with restricted access provided to regional managers and supervisors, enabling the business to analyse routes, monitor driver behaviour, and improve overall productivity while protecting its workforce and other road users.
The system’s road-facing cameras deliver video evidence following road traffic incidents, allowing for immediate welfare checks, swift liability assessment, and the ability to challenge false claims.
The footage also supports investigations into complaints received via Pilkington Automotive’s ‘How’s My Driving?’ road safety programme.
Video and telematics data are used together to identify areas for driver training and continuous improvement.
Young said: “We are already seeing some early benefits in terms of driver protection, claims management and cost reduction, while drivers are acting more vigilantly because of the increased engagement, leading to less high-risk driving incidents.
“As a result, we believe the Ctrack solution will become an essential part of our fleet performance strategy moving forward.”
Steve Thomas, managing director of Ctrack UK, said: “Our comprehensive fleet and video telematics offering means we can work closely with our customers to develop solutions that meet their precise operational requirements.
“With continued advances in the technology, particularly around connectivity and data analysis, we can deliver flexible and use-friendly telematics systems that offer proven safety, efficiency and sustainability improvements.”
The deployment marked a step forward in Pilkington Automotive’s commitment to safe and responsible fleet operations, with the new technology already delivering measurable results.
