Plans have been submitted for a roadside facility in Brough, which would deliver a roadside services facility including a fuel filling station with shop, an electric vehicle charging hub, a drive-thru coffee shop and car wash and jet wash facilities.

If approved, the scheme could create more than 30 permanent jobs while introducing ultra-rapid electric vehicle charging infrastructure.

The planning application relates to land off Stanley Jackson Way and has been brought forward by Brookfield Property (Holdings) Ltd, a Yorkshire-based developer of roadside service facilities.

The EV hub would feature 10 ultra-rapid 300kW charging bays, capable of charging electric vehicles in around eight to 20 minutes, depending on battery size.

Planning and development consultancy Lichfields is advising on the planning application.

Casey Smith, senior planner at Lichfields, said: “The proposals would deliver a modern roadside services facility in a highly accessible location.

“Alongside traditional refuelling and driver facilities, the scheme would introduce ultra-rapid EV charging infrastructure that is currently very limited locally.

“The development would also support the local economy through new employment opportunities and additional services for residents and motorists travelling through the area.”

Planning documents indicate the development could create around 31 permanent jobs once operational, alongside employment during the construction phase and additional roles across the supply chain.

There is currently only one petrol filling station in Brough, located at Morrisons, meaning the proposed facility would expand local choice for residents.

Aziz Patel, director at Brookfield Property (Holdings) Ltd, added: “We believe this proposal would provide a new and enhanced facility for Brough, a growing town which will benefit from more supporting facilities and infrastructure.

“As well as improving access to ultra-rapid EV charging infrastructure and traditional refuelling, the scheme would introduce new services and create employment opportunities in the area.

“We look forward to working with East Riding of Yorkshire Council and the local community as the application progresses.”

The proposed development site extends to around one hectare of land north of Stanley Jackson Way, immediately adjacent to an existing development in Brough.

The planning application is now under consideration by East Riding of Yorkshire Council.
