Porsche has unveiled a new entry-level version of its Macan electric SUV with rear-wheel drive.
At a price starting from £67,200, some £2,600 less than the all-wheel drive Macan 4 that went on sale at the start of 2024, the new Macan is pitched on its efficiency, offering a WLTP combined-cycle range of up to 398 miles aided by its 110kg lighter weight compared to the AWD version.
The rear axle-mounted single motor produces 250kW, equivalent to 340hp, but in conjunction with launch control can be over boosted to 360hp with maximum torque of 563 Nm. This will send the car from rest to 62mph in 5.7 seconds and onto a maximum speed of 137mph.
Also new to the Macan electric range it the 4S, a third all-wheel-drive variant sitting between the Macan 4 and Macan Turbo. Costing from £75,400, the Macan 4S produces 448hp as standard which can be overboosted to 516hp with maximum torque of 820Nm.
With Launch Control, the Macan 4S completes the 0-62mph sprint in 4.1 seconds and has a top speed of 149 mph. It has a combined WLTP range of up to 376 miles.
As with its AWD sisters, the Macan 4S is fitted with the electronically controlled Porsche Traction Management (ePTM) system, which is stated to distribute drive power between the front and rear axles around five times faster than a conventional all-wheel-drive system.
Both new models are fitted with the 800-volt architecture of Porsche’s Premium Platform Electric (PPE). They can both make use of DC chargers of up to 270 kW, which permits recharging from 10 to 80% in around 21 minutes at a suitable fast-charging station.
Porsche dealers are taking orders for the two new Macan models with first deliveries expected before the end of 2024.
