What is it?

‘Pocket rocket’ could have been coined for this version of Ford’s Fiesta van. It’s the top model in the Ford Fiesta van range, which comprises the basic van, ECOnetic van, the Trend and the Sport. Based on the best-selling Ford Fiesta hatchback, it’s not a van for businesses that need to carry much of a load, but if a car-derived van is all you need for the job, then the Fiesta is definitely worth considering.

It’s up against the Fiat Punto Van, which is similar in size, and also the the 0.9cu m Vauxhall Corsavan, which is slightly smaller. So what do you get for your money? At £13,570 OTR it’s not cheap for a car-derived van, and is more than £800 dearer than the Vauxhall Corsavan Sportive 1.3CDTi 16v 95. But it’s easy to see why some might think the extra outlay is worth it for a van that’s so well equipped and fun to drive. With Ford’s stylish ‘family face’, it looks terrific. The 16in 12-spoke alloys, sports-style bumpers and sport front grille add to the racy appearance. Our test van had optional 17in   x 7in alloy wheels shod with 205/40 tyres – £100 extra. Ease yourself into the sports seats – unique to the Sport model – and it almost feels as though you’re behind the wheel of a sports car. The effect is enhanced by the leather-trimmed steering wheel and interior trim. Indeed, the interior is as slick as the exterior.
