Peugeot Boxer 2.2L HDi 130
What is it?
PEUGEOT’s contender in the large panel van sector, the Boxer is well suited to businesses that regularly need to transport large loads. The long-wheelbase, high-roof test model seemed particularly cavernous and just the job for lugging lengthy or bulky items. The Boxer van comes in four different lengths and three different height variants. With a cargo space measuring 3,120mm in length, width of 1,870mm and height of 1,932mm, our 2.2L HDi 130 test van offers a substantial loadspace of 11.5cu m. Width between the wheel arches is 1,422mm and payload is 1,575kg. And if you need to tug a trailer, then the Boxer will haul a braked tow weight of 2,500kg. The full model line-up includes one shorter and two longer length versions. Power comes from a 2,198cc four-cylinder 130hp diesel, which produces a beefy 320Nm of torque. It’s matched with a six-speed gearbox. Stated combined fuel consumption is 38.1mpg with emissions at 195g/km. It a willing worker and pulls well. Although we couldn’t drive the Boxer with a full payload, there’s plenty of urge to keep things moving along confidently. It rides well and feels stable on the McPherson-type wishbone independent front suspension with anti-roll bar, and rear leaf springs. Disc brakes all round provide the Boxer’s stopping power, allowing the driver to rub off speed rapidly.

What’s Hot?
- Cavernous load area with good access
- Refined engine with plenty of torque
- Comfortable cab
What’s not?
- Handbrake positioned on right of driver’s seat can be awkward
- Acknowledging ‘bleep’ when locking/unlocking seems excessively loud. It could wake the neighbours if you are starting early or parking late at night!
Business Vans verdict
A comfortable and capacious van, particularly suited to businesses that need to transport lengthy and voluminous loads.
