Safety tips when using a refrigerated trailer for hire

6 March 2023

Regardless of the industry that your business or organization operates in, safety is of utmost importance. This is especially the case when employing the use of refrigerated trailers as the equipment can prove dangerous if used incorrectly.

Below, you will find some helpful and professional tips from FridgeXpress for making your refrigerated trailer hire straightforward while ensuring that all those involved in the handling process stay safe.

*Avoid moving the refrigerated trailer.

Once the refrigerated trailer is properly situated in its location and stabilized, avoid moving it yourself! When the trailer is adequately connected to a source, you don’t want to accidentally de-level the freezer. Without proper leveling, the trailer doesn’t work as intended and you may also have difficulty shutting the entrance.

*Make sure to park the trailer near a source of power.

Your refrigerated trailer requires easy access to a power supply source. As the leads have very limited range, it often makes it hard to ensure a steady stream of power to the trailer itself.

*Keep the doors properly shut.

It goes without saying that in order to ensure that the trailer adequately refrigerates, it’s crucial to ensure that the doors are properly shut. Apart from preventing damage to the trailer, it also eliminates the freezer from icing up or malfunctioning in any way.

*Avoid overloading the internal shelves or unevenly distributing the weight.

Each refrigerated trailer is designed with maximum shelf space available for clients, but that doesn’t mean that it’s not possible to overload the shelves. The point is that the load should remain equally distributed along the span of the shelving versus being concentrated on one side. This eliminates the shelves from buckling or suffering undue damage.

*Don’t change the temperature setting when renting the trailer.

It’s very easy and possible to accidentally alter the temperature settings on the control section of the trailer. Unfortunately, tampering with the temperature in any way can cause the trailer to work less effectively and may also result in undue damage. When receiving your trailer, make it a point to inspect that the preset temperature meets your desired specifications. Should you need to alter the temperature setting in any way, always do it by the book! Make sure to read the instruction manual that comes with the trailer and explains how to properly do this without causing damage; this eliminates any potential for liability on your part.
