What’s not?
- Although well made, the Superb’s interior doesn’t feel as plush as sister car, the Volkswagen Passat, or as chic as say the Audi A4’s.
- Tighter body control would further improve the Superb’s tidy handling.
- Skoda are offering a Business Edition version of the 120PS 1.9 TDI diesel, with the specification perfectly suited to SME buyers. It’s a shame then, that it’s not available with this 1.4-litre petrol.
Verdict for the Skoda Superb 1.4TSI ACT SE hatch
It is hard not to be impressed with the new Superb, even in mid-spec SE trim and fitted with the 148bhp, 1.4-litre TSI petrol. The biggest Skoda looks great, has an impressively spacious interior and is refined enough to worry cars of a size above. Also, despite its size, this smaller engine seems perfectly at home in the Superb’s big bodywork.
Cheaper to run than the 2.0-litre TDI diesel 150, the 1.4 petrol does make a fine business car too; the low 115g/km emissions and 18% company car tax band could see this spacious and refined big Skoda on your drive for under £300 per month in a business car rental and from £63 a month in company car tax.
