Revitalised brand Smart has revealed the #5, the third model in its electric line-up.

Pronounced hashtag 5, the mid-sized SUV will be officially unveiled in Brisbane, Australia on 28th August and will go on European sale in 2025 alongside the existing #1 small SUV and #3 coupe SUV.

The car will be a production version of the Smart Concept #5 which was shown in April at the Beijing International Automotive Exhibition. Smart has released design sketches of the new car, created by the design studios of parent brand Mercedes-Benz, and these show that it follows the Concept closely.

According to Dirk Adelmann, CEO of smart Europe GmbH, the Smart #5 is the brand’s most spacious and versatile vehicle to date. “The #5 is a great expansion of our existing portfolio and will make the smart brand an attractive choice for more and more customers in Europe,” he said.

Technical details of the new model are yet to be revealed but it is expected to be available in four varieties, two rear-wheel-drive single motor versions and a pair with dual motors, the upper version of which is said to boast 645hp and a subtree-second 0-62mph time.

The #5 will be built in China by Geely – industry sources suggest that UK prices could start from around £35,000.
