Stellantis has started a hydrotreated vegetable oil (HVO) fuel trial in Europe, demonstrating the CO2 benefits of using the fuel in light commercial vehicles (LCVs).
All new Stellantis LCVs and diesels are compatible with HVO fuel.
The project, named HVO Aurora, is intended to focus on the tracking and certification of HVO fuel use, as a way for fleets to demonstrate their environmental credentials.
HVO Aurora introduces a platform that records fuel type, trip distance and consumption, allowing fleets to prove their use of low-carbon fuel.
Two Stellantis vans, a Citroën Berlingo and a Fiat Ducato, have embarked on a month-long European road trip, equipped with FluidBox Micro sensors from SP3H to collect real-world usage data.
The platform will confirm HVO usage and estimate CO2 savings.
Luca Marengo, head of product and innovation at Stellantis Pro One, said: “HVO Aurora shows how we can reduce well-to-wheel emissions immediately, using solutions that work with the vehicles our customers already rely on.
“At Stellantis Pro One, we remain committed to providing practical and scalable ways to help businesses reduce full cycle emissions now.
“This project is a concrete step forward in building a cleaner future for mobility in Europe.”
