Video telematics provider SureCam has launched a driver coaching app, powered by artificial intelligence (AI).

The app will utilise data from SureCam’s AI dashcams, which recognise harsh and distracted driving events.

An automated coaching workflow will then respond to these events, with different responses based on severity.

Fleets will be able to customise the system, deciding which responses the app implements.

Responses include warnings, requests for drivers to view training videos, complete coaching quizzes, or attend in-person meetings.

John Weldon, president of SureCam, said: “Our coaching system has transformed how fleets use the footage and data generated by AI video telematics.

“It is eliminating up to 70% of vehicle alerts, and with the introduction of our mobile app, we can free up even more time and make the entire process much more manageable.”

Drivers can see video footage of the distracted or harsh driving event, and can provide feedback through two-way messaging.

An individual performance score will be provided to each driver, with comparisons to peer groups allowing them to see their progress.

Weldon said: “This latest innovation will supercharge our AI coaching tool – already proven to cut high-risk driving events in half and dramatically reduce vehicle collisions – by supporting those drivers that need it most.”

The system will provide a detailed view of coaching assignments, and communications with drivers, so fleets can monitor driver compliance, and see if training is completed on time.

Fleets will also be able to analyse the results of the coaching system, and calculate the return on investment.

Weldon said: “Our mobile app significantly reduces fleet-related workload, while measurably improving results, by automating and streamlining coaching processes and driver engagement.

“This will form an important part of our AI coaching proposition moving forward, providing an added layer of support and a better way of managing driver safety using video telematics insight.”
