AUDI is continuing its drive towards low emission business cars.
Hot in the tyre tracks of the Audi A3 TDIe, and its 13% company car tax banding, comes the petrol-engined Audi A3 1.2 TFSI. And a company car tax band of 15% – the lowest ‘standard’ rate.
The latest A3 features a lightweight, small capacity engine. But boosted by a turbocharger to give 105PS – slighly more than the current Audi A3 1.6.
The result is 51.3mpg (combined cycle), while emitting just 127g/km CO2 (compare this with 42.2mpg and 159g/km CO2 for the A3 1.6).
However, despite the improved economy and company car tax liability, the new A3 1.2 TFSI also promises to be far better to drive. The amount of torque goes up to 175Nm (up from the 148Nm of the 1.6).
Torque is the engine’s ability to deliver muscular low-down and in-gear response. It means the new Audi A3 1.2 TFSI can accelerate to 62mph in 11.1 seconds.
The Audi A3 will be given its debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show (September) where prices will be announced. The car is expected in the UK in March 2010.
