Ford has announced a three-strong increase in its electric vehicle (EV) offerings, with the start of volume production of the the Puma Gen-E, E-Tourneo Courier and E-Transit Courier.
The Puma Gen-E is an all-electric version of the compact crossover that is Ford’s best-selling car in Europe, routinely topping the UK’s new car top ten. It will go on sale with a maximum range of 233 miles and the ability to recharge from 10 to 80% in 23 minutes using a 100kW DC fast charger.
The E-Tourneo Courier is a five-seat multi-activity vehicle with a powertrain offering up to 178 miles of range and fast charging, while the E-Transit Courier is bigger in all dimensions over its predecessor, with a maximum range of up to 186 miles between charges, the ability to take a 700kg payload, up by 218kg over the previous Transit Courier, and a loadspace increased by 25%, enabling the new model to accommodate two Euro pallets.
All three new vehicles are being built at the Ford Otosan European electric plant in Cralova, Romania. The three all use electric drive units produced at Ford’s facility in Halewood, UK and parts produced at the brand’s component plant in Cologne, Germany.
General manager of Ford Blue and Model e in Europe, Jon Williams, described the start of production as the latest in an incredible journey for Ford; “from introducing our first electric vehicle in Europe, the Mustang Mach-E, to now offering a broad range of electric cars and commercial vehicles in just a few years.”
He added that the three new vehicles would further enhance Ford’s existing electric vehicle range. “There is a choice of vehicles to suit both private and business customers, opening up the benefits of electric mobility to an even wider audience.”
