HOW do you get engineers, tools and equipment to remote locations and into areas with no roads?
That’s the problem faced by many utility companies and one to which Scottish Water has found a solution.
The water company runs a fleet of Toyota Hilux 4×4 pick-ups and recently took delivery of five Truckman Classic hardtops – ordered through Toyota – for its Hilux fleet.
The latest batch follows a previous order for 35 Truckman tops purchased in 2012.
The Truckman hardtops give the Hiluxes the flexible storage capabilities expected from a panel van, while the 4×4 pick-ups provide the off-road ability to get crew and gear to remote areas, including locations surrounding reservoirs and sample points on the water table across Scotland.
The hardtops are made at Auto Styling Truckman’s works in the West Midlands. Two access points allow engineers easy access to the load area.
As well as a solid rear door, the hard tops have large side hatches.
The pick-up trucks have been fitted with shelving, racking and cabinets for the storage of tools and equipment, installed by vehicle conversion specialists Botts of Cumbernauld.
Scottish Water senior procurement specialist Ian Summers told Business Vans: “Our fleet of hardtop-fitted pick-up trucks are very useful for helping our engineers access hard-to-reach sites with rough terrains.
“The addition of the hardtop created a flexible and secure storage space that allows our engineers to carry to the tools and equipment they need when operating in tough off-road locations.”
