Vauxhall has opened orders for the Astra Griffin, a new special edition, which will serve as the entry-level model.

Heated front seats, a heated steering wheel, and a reversing camera are offered as standard equipment.

Prices for the hatchback model start at £26,090 for the 1.2-litre 130PS petrol model – offered with a choice of manual or automatic gearboxes – with the electric vehicle (EV) variant starting at £35,005.

EV models offer up to 260 miles of range, and 156PS, with 3% benefit-in-kind (BiK), down from 31% on petrol models.

Sports Tourer models start at £28,890 for the petrol engine, and £36,205 for the EV.

Hybrid (non-plug-in) models are available with the Griffin specification too, with the hatchback starting from £28,540, and the Sports Tourer starting from £31,390.

Hybrid models have 145PS, and 27% BiK.

The Vauxhall Astra Griffin replaces the Astra Design as the new entry-level model, adding a black roof, tinted rear windows, and larger, diamond-cut wheels (17-inch on petrol models, 18-inch on EVs).

Keyless start, wireless phone charging, and lane-keeping assist are also standard on the Griffin.

The increased specification level represents a £2,775 saving over the outgoing Astra Design.

Electric models will get eight years roadside assistance, 10,000 miles of free home charging, and a £500 contribution towards the installation of a home charger through Ohme, or equivalent public charging credit.
