Vauxhall Insignia: did I mention the tax?

Vauxhall Insignia at rest.

That’s silly money for a car this good and so spacious.

Compare our award winning Insignia model to the Ford Focus. In this case it’s a similarly priced, less powerful model but it does have nav – the Ford Focus 5 Door 1.6 TDCi Zetec Navigator 115PS DPF. On the Focus model you pay company car tax from £55 a month – more than the larger Insignia.

That’s a real tribute to the Vauxhall engineers and the price setters that these two cars – from separate classes – should even be comparable let alone make the Insignia better on company car tax.

 Facts, figures, likes and dislikes

P11D – £24,169

Company car tax – £60 per month for a basic rate tax payer

Official mpg – 76.3mpg

Our average mpg – 54.27mpg over 4625 miles

Our best mpg – 65.2mpg on a 120 mile trip

We like – long distance travelling experience, luxury specification, outstanding economy, low company car tax exposure, sat nav graphics

We don’t like – noisy engine under acceleration, sat nav doesn’t always recognise your destination, initial muting needed on phone calls

You’ll notice the difference on your pocket. Not just in the reduced company car tax but in the ongoing running costs and the lessened need to visit the fuel pumps. We’re seeing over 53mpg average from mixed driving; and some 66mpg on long motorway runs – the computer looks spot on as it correlates with our brim to brim findings, too.

But it’s not just the company car driver that wins. If you’re the director of an SME company responsible for the firm’s company cars, then the Vauxhall Insignia’s business car rentals can be claimed in full against corporation tax and 50% of the VAT on the lease rental is also reclaimable.

And with rentals from £267 provided by Vauxhall dealers through the company’s small business programme, there’s even more compelling reason to consider the outstanding financials of the Vauxhall Insignia.

Because the Vauxhall Insignia not only saves on tax for the company car driver, but in running costs for the SME business car manager.

Little wonder, then, the SME Company Car of the Year Judges reached the decision they did. The Insignia is a winner all round.
