Vauxhall has launched a new top-of-the range version of the Grandland Electric, with all-wheel-drive (AWD).

The new model has 325PS, allowing for a 0-62 time of 6.1 seconds, while a 73kWh battery allows for up to 311 miles of range on the WLTP test cycle.

AWD is enabled by a new 112PS electric motor on the rear axle, in addition to the 213PS front axle motor found on other Grandland Electric models.

Steve Catlin, managing director of Vauxhall, said: “Our top-of-the-range Grandland SUV is a milestone for Vauxhall, having proven very popular since we opened the order books last August.

“Customers already have the choice of fully electric drive or 48-volt hybrid powertrains, and now we are expanding that offering with the Grandland Electric AWD.

“The new all-wheel drive addition ensures that our customers can enjoy maximum efficiency and safety in diverse weather and road conditions, combined with plenty of driving fun”

The new model has four driving modes, with the rear motor only engaging when strong acceleration is needed in Normal mode and Eco mode, allowing for increased efficiency.

In Sport mode and AWD mode, both motors operate continuously, for increased performance and stability.

Rapid charging is available, with the battery charging from 20% to 80% in 26 minutes.

The Grandland Electric AWD comes standard with 20-inch aero wheels, and new, sportier bumpers, making it the most aerodynamic Grandland model.

Adaptive dampers are also standard on the new model, allowing for a better ride while retaining handling characteristics.

New springs, new anti-roll bars, and tweaked tuning for the steering and stability control have also been added to the new model, with Vauxhall saying these changes help retain its ‘Vauxhall DNA’.

Exterior changes for the AWD model include a new grille with an illuminated Griffin logo, adaptive LED headlights, illuminated Vauxhall lettering on the tailgate, and an embossed Grandland logo also on the tailgate.

UK pricing for the new model is yet to be announced, deliveries will start in Q4.

Vauxhall currently offers electric versions of every car in the range, with the Grandland now being the first to be offered with AWD.
