VOLKSWAGEN has released the first technical details of its next, eighth-generation Passat. There’s also the first clue about its looks, too, in the form of highly-stylised designers’ sketches, although the car itself won’t be seen for real until the saloon and estate models are unveiled in July.
One key advance – thanks to the use of advanced materials, the next Passat should be about 85kg lighter than the out-going model, a weight saving similar to that achieved by the current Golf compared with its predecessor.
Therefore, the new car will be more fuel-efficient, with lower C02 emissions – equalling reduced company car tax exposure.
