Volkswagen has unveiled the ID. Every1 concept, an electric city car that will go into production in 2027.
The production car, effectively an electric successor to the Volkswagen up! last made in 2023, is being pitched by its makers as ‘the 20,000 Euro electric Volkswagen’, equating to a likely UK selling price starting from around £17,000 – this will place it firmly in the new wave of affordable EVs coming from makers, rivalling such vehicles as the Renault 4.
VW is placing the forthcoming production version of the ID. Every1 in its new range of front-wheel-drive models dubbed the ‘Electric Urban Car Family’ – it will be followed by the ID. 2all, which VW says will be launched in the 25,000 euro class next year.
The entry-level car will sit on a version of the platform Volkswagen has developed for a range of new electric models across the group including its ID. 2 variants and equivalents from sister brands Cupra and Skoda.
The ID. Every1 is front-wheel-drive and powered by a 95hp electric motor – battery details have not been released but Volkswagen says it will have a range of at least 250km, equating to 155 miles.
It will also be the first car in the VW range to make use of new software architecture that will permit over-the-air updates throughout its entire life cycle.
At 3880mm long the newcomer is larger than the up! (3600mm) but smaller than the forthcoming ID. 2All (4050mm) and the current Polo (4074mm). Volkswagen states that there will be space inside the car for four people plus a 305-litre luggage compartment, and that it should appeal equally to private buyers, B2B users and delivery and care services.
The production successor to the ID. Every1 will be one of nine new models VW intends to launch by 2027, including four EVs.
