Volvo has revealed its latest Cross Country model, applying the off-road image for the first time to an SUV and to an electric vehicle in the EX30.
Orders have opened for the EX30 Cross Country, which compared to the standard EV has a ride height raised by 19mm and off-road pitched styling that includes skid plates on the undersides at the front and rear, and optional 18-inch all-terrain tyres.
Mechanically the EX30 Cross Country comes in 4×4 format only, with softer rear suspension to provide a mild off-road ability, extending to mud and snow, while still ensuring that it offers an enjoyable on-tarmac performance. This includes making no changes to the car’s interior.

The Cross Country uses the same 69kWh two-motor setup as the stock EX30, which produces power of 428hp and a range of up to 264 miles between charges. With a suitable charger replenishment from 10 to 80% can be achieved in 26 minutes.
Accessories to go with the image include a roof-mounted tent, a kayak holder and a towbar that can be dismounted and stored in the boot.
Alongside the car Volvo is also launching the ‘Cross Country Experience’, giving buyers access to accessories, equipment and information to explore the great outdoors.
“We launched our first Cross Country car more than 25 years ago, and this concept of durable and all-weather cars is core to the Volvo brand,” said Jim Rowan, CEO of Volvo Cars.
“In Sweden we face harsh winters, but we also like to make the most of them by getting out and exploring our amazing nature, even when it’s minus 20 Celsius outside. That’s why we want to deliver a fully rounded experience, not simply a car, to our EX30 Cross Country customers.”
Volvo expects to start delivering the new EX30 Cross Country variants in late Spring – prices are still to be revealed.
