Volvo has announced that its upcoming EX60 electric vehicle (EV) will have an 810km (500 mile) range, all wheel drive and 400kW fast charging abilities.

The Volvo EX60 will be able to add 210 miles of range in 10 minutes using a fast charger.

Volvo has developed a new architecture for the EX60, named SPA3, which uses cell-to-body technology and electric motors developed in-house to boost efficiency and reduce weight.

It uses an 800V electrical system to enable faster charging, along with algorithms developed by Breathe Battery Technologies that keep the battery in its ideal operating zone in all weather conditions.

The car also uses mega casting technology, which combines hundreds of smaller parts into a single casting, reducing weight and increasing production efficiency.

It is the first Volvo model to use the process first seen on the Tesla Model Y.

Volvo will reveal the EX60 in a livestreamed event on 21st January 2026.

Anders Bell, chief technology officer at Volvo Cars, said: “The EX60 is designed to be a gamechanger.

“With our new electric vehicle architecture, we directly address the main worries that customers have when considering a switch to a fully electric car.

“The result is class-leading range and fast charging speeds, marking the end of range anxiety.”

Volvo will provide a 10 year battery warranty on the EX60.
