VOLVO’s XC Coupe Concept has clocked up two awards at the Detroit show.
The stylish two-door coupe has been named the best concept car of the show, and been given a second accolade for the innovative use of form, colour and material.
While recalling Volvo’s recently dropped C30, the XC Coupe Concept boasts styling language that will be seen in upcoming Volvo cars right up to the next XC 90 SUV expected later this year.
The wide-ranging list of future models that are expected to include elements of the XC Coupe also demonstrates the flexibility of Volvo’s latest SPA (Scalable Product Architecture) variable modular vehicle platform, which underpins the XC Coupe.
Detroit’s Design Prize jury, comprising active and former chief car designers along with teachers in art academies, chose the XC Coupe as its favourite concept, to the delight of Volvo’s chief designer Thomas Ingenlath.
“I am of course honored and happy – the awards encourage me and confirm that the new design direction was very well received not only by the press and the general audience, but also with the top designers in the automotive industry,” Ingenath said.
