Volkswagen Group and OVO Energy are extending a charging benefit offered on new electric vehicles to fleet and salary sacrifice drivers.

The two joined forces in July 2024 to offer buyers of EVs from any of the VW brands, Audi, Cupra, Škoda, Volkswagen cars and commercial vehicles, the OVO ‘Charge Anytime’ add-on. This allows customers to charge their cars for 7p/kWh at home at any time of the day or night.

According to OVO Charge Anytime, which works by automatically enabling charging when carbon emissions and prices are lower, has saved customers more than £10 million since its launch in 2022.

Under the Volkswagen agreement customers will gain 2,000 free miles on sign-up and anniversary bonuses of 1,000 free miles per year for the next three years.

Volkswagen Group describes the partnership with OVO as part of its ongoing commitment to support a successful transition to electric vehicles, understanding the importance of the supporting ‘ecosystem’, including home chargers in partnership with Ohme and energy through OVO.

The extension to company car and salary sacrifice customers, according to VW, is a recognition of and support to the significant number of fleet customers who acquire electric vehicles. “I’m really pleased we’re now able to offer fleet drivers the same convenient ‘EV package’ as retail buyers,” said Iker Lazzari, head of group fleet and insight operations for Volkswagen Group UK.

“Free miles, anniversary bonuses and access to one single energy cost are new and simple ways in which we can show our commitment to electrification and, importantly, to making the switch to EV both easy and enjoyable.”

OVO is also offering petrol and diesel car drivers planning to switch to electric the opportunity to ‘bank’ an extra 50 miles on top of the 100 EV miles per month for up to 24 months – if they then go on to buy a new Volkswagen Group electric vehicle.
