The all new Golf Mk7 (right) joins Zipcar’s range of cars along with the Up! and latest Corsa

FANCY driving the all-new VW Golf on business? Or how about a VW Up! Or the latest Vauxhall Corsa?

Now you can try them out – without even committing to it being your next company car.

That’s because  Zipcar is adding them all to its choice of pay-as-you-drive cars – a move it hopes will tempt more companies to use its services.

It makes sense for businesses to have access to cars as and when they need them

Zipcar is the UK’s largest pay-as-you-drive car network. It already has 1500 cars and vans but wants to make the choice even more attractive – particularly to business users.

Which is why the new models on its fleet include the Volkswagen Golf Mk7, the VW Up! and the Vauxhall Corsa.

Up to now Zipcar has concentrated mainly on the consumer market but is now turning its attention more and more towards the small business and SME market.

What are the advantages for you? To start with, of course there’s no company car tax to worry about.

Andrew Edgar, Zipcar’s UK director, says many start-ups and fast growing businesses like the pay-as-you-drive option

Nor are there any standing costs for the business – finance, maintenance, insurance etc.

Zipcar says it provides a simple, low cost, and reliable pay-as-you-drive service that complements other modes of transport, providing consumers and businesses with an alternative to city car ownership.

Cars are available by the hour or by the day, and the new Zipcar fleet will include a higher proportion of automatic and compact city cars than in previous years, reflecting a growing demand amongst existing Zipcar members for an easy, affordable and convenient urban mobility option.

Andrew Edgar, Zipcar director of UK business, said it made economic sense for many companies to have vehicles as and when they were needed rather than having them on a long term business car lease.

“Company cars often stay idle for several hours each day, which really is a waste of money,” he said.

“Using Zipcar is a far more efficient use of resources and people can opt for the type of vehicle that suits their need on any particular day.

“If you are going to be making a journey in a busy town or city it makes sense to opt for a small city car. But if there are a number of people who are going to be travelling on a specific day then you can book out a larger vehicle.

“Certainly we are finding that a large number of start-up and rapidly expanding companies are using our services for their business cars.”

The new additions mean Zipcar users can choose from 12 different models

Zipcar members benefit from 40 miles of fuel, insurance, maintenance, roadside assistance, road tax and the Congestion Charge when travelling in London.

There are currently 12 different models to choose from and the average age of each one is just eleven months, so all have the most up–to-date technologies and environmental credentials.

Zipcar is a subsidiary of Avis Budget Group – read more here.
