VAUXHALL has released the first pictures of its forthcoming Viva model, which will slot into the range beneath the new Corsa when it arrives in the UK in Spring 2015.
The latest addition to Vauxhall’s range revives a badge from the 1960s and 1970s when Vivas were a common sight on British roads but is in other respects thoroughly modern.
Under the bonnet, there’s the company’s new 75 PS 1.0-litre three-cylinder petrol engine, which has already been seen in the Corsa and Adam, paired with a five-speed manual gearbox.
Vauxhall reckons the Viva has space for five, despite its length of just 3.68 metres. Like the Adam and the Corsa, the Viva is also fitted with Vauxhall’s IntelliLink infotainment system, which is designed to work with both Apple iOS and Android devices.
Technical features include ESP with traction control, ABS with Electronic Brake-Force Distribution and Hill Start Assist. Other safety-related options include Lane Departure Warning.
Like the Adam and the Corsa the Viva’s steering has a “City” mode which reduces effort at the wheel at the push of a button.
“Short, crisp and full of character, Vauxhall’s new entry-level model is a ‘proper’ small car and will hold great appeal in this rapidly growing sector,” according to Vauxhall boss Tim Tozer. “On sale next year at an extremely attractive price point, Viva joins new Corsa and Adam in a compelling small car portfolio, giving Vauxhall an unrivalled position in the small car market.”
