Like the original Beetle, the iD 3 is rear-wheel-drive with motor and gearbox located on the rear axle.  The drive unit develops up to 204 PS in the ID.3 yet, incredibly, together the motor and gearbox weigh only  90 kg and are compact enough to fit into a gym bag

VW’s best-seller – T-Roc Life review

By |2023-04-11T11:11:29+01:00April 11th, 2023|Car news and reviews, News, Volkswagen Reviews|

The three cylinder 1.0 engine is not only the cheapest in the range to buy, it is also cheaper to tax and run, and in reality, maybe all you need with everyday driving. It’s punchy, super refined and responsive, definitely one of the best three cylinder units around. The entry-level petrol engine certainly offers sufficient power and is definitely worth considering to keep costs down.

VW Caddy Life – perfect bag (and people) carrier

By |2022-05-03T09:22:13+01:00May 3rd, 2022|Car news and reviews, News, Volkswagen Reviews|

The Caddy is now in its fifth generation and while there are larger five-seat VWs around, this version is probably the best value, starting at under £25,500, and the most practical as a family vehicle. It sits on the same VW Group MQB platform which means it shares many of the attributes of the latest Golf, including engines, safety equipment and many interior features.

Electric cars can be washed, you know – VW e-Golf long term review five

By |2021-07-21T11:44:02+01:00April 8th, 2019|Car news and reviews, Electric Vehicles, Volkswagen Reviews|

I WAS helping present at a business briefing recently. Organised by Concept Vehicle Leasing - winner of the Leasing Broker Federation’s Best Small Leasing Broker Customer Service Award - it was a relaxed evening in central London with 20 businesses present. Some had fleets of one car; others a fleet of 30 vans. So a varied audience. But the point [...]

SO I’m back on apps again. My apologies. But it’s a big part of life with an electric car. And the Volkswagen e-Golf is no different. I have a Pod Point 7kWh charger at home. It connects to the home wifi system and lets you know the cost of the electricity consumed by your electric car. Except at the time [...]

Electric cars are app-driven, part 1 – VW e-Golf long term review 3

IF there’s one thing I’ve learnt about electric motoring with the VW e-Golf, it’s this. You need a smartphone. And a smartphone with enough memory to carry a plurality of apps. Particularly when you’re on the road. And you need to top up the battery. (The car’s, not the phone’s.) My wife Alison had an appointment at Brighton Marina. As [...]

HOW far can you go? What's the range? These are typical and expected reactions when people ask what do you drive - and the answer is an electric Golf. And the answer is - it depends. The official range on the NEDC cycle is 186 miles. VW quotes the usable range as 124. I work on a 130 miles rule [...]
