EVs charge through the one million barrier
Volatility in BEV supply has been expected and is likely to continue as manufacturers adjust product allocation following the last-minute resolution over UK-EU rules of origin, which had threatened to apply tariffs to EVs, restricting affordability. However, while fleet and business demand for BEVs grew by 41.7% in January, registrations by private buyers fell by -25.1% – an ongoing trend that will undermine Britain’s ability to deliver net zero.
Electric record breaker – Iveco eDaily 3.5t
There's a lot of movement in the LCV market as fleet operators look to transition to electric and finding the right van for your business is key - is it big enough? Is it powerful enough? Is the range good enough? This is where the eDaily scores highly. It can be configured with one-to-three modules, which each have a capacity of 37kWh. Batteries can also be added or removed in-life if operational needs change.

Stellantis Pro One expands hydrogen offer
Aimed at supporting intensive customer use, the fuel cell versions of the commercial vans build on the technology used in the zero-emission BEV variants of the vehicles, with the added advantages of short refueling times and no sacrifice of payload capability. For the mid-size vans, a second generation of the fuel cell system delivers a segment record range of up to 400 km and refueling time of less than four minutes.
Is an EV right for you?
Like choosing between diesel and petrol, the mileage and type of driving you do will be the most important factor to consider when looking at electric cars. Electric cars are probably most suited for urban driving with lower mileage, with occasional or short motorway trips.
Fleets set to remain ‘backbone’ of EV transition in 2024
With EVs set to make up a growing proportion of the overall new car parc, thanks to the ZEV mandate, a rapidly changing OEM product mix and other factors, buyers need to be found for these new EVs. Without a sudden and dramatic turnaround in consumer appetite, fleets will continue to shoulder that burden.
ZEV new car mandate could put used car market on a knife edge
With OEMs now working towards the government target of achieving 22% of their annual sales through zero emission cars by 2030, INDICATA UK’s group sales director Jon Mitchell, wonders how long the used EV market can sustain the pressure from the new vehicle market.
Octopus Energy and Gett spark EV charging partnership for London’s black cabs
The offer includes charging discounts and credits, as well as reduced prices on home charging equipment for cab drivers on the Gett platform. The Octopus EV charging platform - Octopus Electroverse - is integrated with most charge point brands in the capital.
Van operators starting to take hydrogen seriously
Move towards hydrogen is largely being prompted by the difficulties surrounding the adoption of electric vans in their current form. Some fleets in some applications are finding that the range and payload of the electric vans available so far remain unsuitable for their needs. There are also operational issues ranging from poor towing ability through to practical difficulties such as charging out of hours.
Used EVs prices given a welcome boost as market realigns
Many leasing companies are seeing a growing number of used EVs coming back from fleet customers. The restricted number of new budget EVs on sale is helping create demand for used cars which will build confidence among dealers looking to stock EVs on their forecourts, many for the first time
Frontera nameplate returns as an EV
The arrival of the battery-electric variant of the new Frontera, along with the launch of the all-electric version of the next generation Grandland (also scheduled for this year), will mark an important milestone in the British brand’s transition to becoming a fully electric brand. Vauxhall will then offer at least one fully electric version across its entire car and van range.
Clenergy EV and Paua collaborate to improve EV charging for fleets
EV drivers using the Paua app or card can recharge their vehicle at selected charge points powered by Clenergy EV software. With over 43,000 charge point connectors Paua is the UK’s largest roaming network. The collaboration with Clenergy EV will increase the network by a further 10 per cent, making over 4,000 new charge points available to Paua customers across the UK.
First Hydrogen trials with Wales and West utilities
Until now, First Hydrogen’s FCEV trials have been located near existing hydrogen fuel stations. This trial will demonstrate how partnerships can develop refuelling in areas that lack infrastructure. Using Hyppo Hydrogen Solutions’ refuelling service and green H2 fuel from Protium Green Solutions, enables WWU to refuel close to its depot in Swansea rather than travelling to a public station. Successful refuelling trials with First Hydrogen’s FCEV, Hyppo’s unit and Protium’s renewable hydrogen took place in December 2023.

Shared electric van charging committee launched
Charging has emerged a key issue for those operating electric vans, whether that means finding power as part of a planned route that exceeds the vehicle’s range, overnight to ensure a van is ready for the following day, or in a part of the country where charging facilities are scarce. Many fleet operators can see the potential for sharing their infrastructure on this basis

Research reveals that the top 3 areas with the most public and free charging stations relative to the population are all in the capital city. A more surprising inclusion in the top ten is the Scottish Orkney Islands, with 1 charger per 442 people. While the islands have a low population, they have a significant number of chargers for their size, serving both tourists and locals.
