August new car sales
- August new car registrations increase 9.6% to 79,060 units.
- Gains made across fleet, business and private market segments.

AUGUST. A quiet month for new car sales, usually, but not this year.
The new car market recorded its 42nd successive monthly growth in August according to figures published today by the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT).
New car registrations went up 9.6% to 79,060, taking year-to-date growth to a healthy 6.7% with attractive finance offers pinpointed for helping achieve the growth.
Gains were made across all sectors and all fuel types, with registrations in the fleet and business sectors pushing up figures ahead of private registrations:
- Fleet registrations – up 12.1%
- Business registrations – up 11.8%
- Private registrations – up 7.2%
SMMT says that the market for alternatively-fuelled vehicles grew 52.3% year on year, maintaining a steady 2.4% share of the overall market (just under 20000 of August’s total).
