One source told Autocar;

“We need to get the next year to 18 months over and the new products established. Then our sales volumes will have doubled and we’ll be a different company, with the scope for further investment.”

Stephen de Ploey, Jaguar’s brand director, suggested that the company will look to widen its crossover range in future, telling Autocar that “a family [of crossovers] is not confirmed but we are investigating it.

“We have the architecture and capability with Land Rover to go left or right, up or down, but we’d only do it on two key attributes: the car has to be dynamically the most capable and it has to meet our design standards.”

He added that a smaller model would be “the obvious opportunity” but that the company would face challenges getting the design and performance expected from a Jaguar and at the same time, creating a strong case for sales in both premium and mainstream segments.

He also said that this would likely be a long-term strategy and may require a new platform to enable it.
