Government needs to do more to speed EV uptake

The past year has seen a record-breaking 34% surge in average quoted premiums, with the last quarter alone witnessing a 14.3% jump. This drastic uptick, the largest since the tracking of such data began in October 2013, could potentially jeopardise road safety, especially among younger motorists.

Save more money when charging your EV from 1st July
With the average UK driver covering 6800 miles a year, smart charging on an off-peak tariff in a typical EV would cost just £127.50 for a year’s worth of driving with Octopus Intelligent at 7.5p/kWh. At the new Standard Variable Tariff of 30p/kWh, that same annual mileage would cost £510. By comparison, the same mileage in an equivalent petrol car would cost a driver more than £1100. More accurate range labelling needed on E-vans
Weather is proving to be much greater than originally thought with some AFP members seeing a drop in range approaching 50% during the coldest winter days on occasions when there was no opportunity to precondition the battery. However, other issues are emerging, too. Payload was already known to have a negative impact – although its extent has proven to be a surprise to some operators – but the effect of commonly-used fittings such as roof racks and ladder loaders are proving noticeable.

E number – Nissan Qashqai e-POWER Tekna 190 review
Fuel economy during our time with the car worked out at well over 50 miles to the gallon. There are no numbers from Nissan regarding how far this model can go in zero emission mode but it's almost irrelevant as the powertrain is always adjusting its behaviour to your driving. The engine will run as little as possible, and in truth you’ll barely notice it when it does kick into life.
