Business Car Manager Road Test Rating

Whether or not you like the rounded edges to the wedge-shaped styling there is no denying the ninth generation Honda Civic feels a more premium model than its predecessor.

Honda’s determination to drive down running costs with new powertrains will be as welcome to high mileage business users as the vastly improved ride quality and the integration of personal music players and smartphones to help pass the time on long journeys. And the 2.2 diesel offers plenty of performance and good economy.

There are no plans for a 3dr version due to low sales but we expect a sporting Type R in future with a tuned engine and sharper suspension. Before then, look out for the ultra-low polluting 1.6 diesel which could really open up the Civic orders from SME fleets and small business users once it arrives in 2013. Until then, this 2.2 diesel is the pick of the new Civic range – and in this EX trim, excellent for business use.
