Conversation with Volvo’s John Wallace
Had a quick chat last night with John Wallace from Volvo.
John runs the corporate and business sales side at Volvo. I was quizzing him about the new DRIVe models – the ones that look like the cap-lock button on your keyboard has released too early – and when they would arrive in the UK.
DRIVe models are low emission versions of Volvo cars, from the C30 Coupe right up to the XC60 4×4 model. They all feature low emissions that place the cars under the key new tax breaks. In other words, they cost you less to run on the company; and your drivers less in company car tax.
John was in good form. And, it seems, there is plenty of demand for Volvos at the moment.
“I guess we’re not a corporate clone – like a BMW or a Mercedes,” said John. “With the economy in such a state, Volvo is not an in-your-face-brand that might suggest the wrong ‘too successful’ message to your clients or customers. Which is why I think we’re so good for small businesses. It’s a premium car brand, but the image is neutral.”
If you haven’t seen the story, it’s here: Low-emission low-tax range DRIVe range from Volvo. I haven’t driven one of these cars yet – should that be DRIVen? – but I gather the cars are highly satisfying. And with a range of trim levels, you’re not escaping the taxman’s company car clutches by driving a pauper special.
