Towing duties down to the Medway, Kent
Saturday was a case of getting up early and transporting my son, Matt, Topper sailing dinghy, and trailer down to the Medway in Kent, near the old naval dockyards.
I love going to Wilsonian. It’s a tiny club nestled on the banks of the Medway. To access it you have to go through a farm, through a field and then descend a very steep and winding path to get to the club to unload.
The clubhouse is south facing, so on a good day you can watch the racing, scribble a few words on the laptop, and catch a few rays, too. It was a good day at Wilsonian.
The Honda CR-V is perfect for this sort of journey. You really hardly notice you’re towing anything thanks to the strong pull of the diesel. And when you get there, the muddy field at the top of the access road is no problem, thanks to the four-wheel drive system on the Honda.
Sadly, while the Honda did its bit successfully, and I enjoyed the lovely weather on the club’s balcony, Matt had less success out on the water. Oh well, can’t win them all.
There’s more sailing to come next weekend!
