GRATEFUL yesterday to the quick-thinking of the guy following me off the M40 and onto the M42/NEC slip road in the gathering gloom and drizzle. Suddenly the traffic stopped. Dead.
The Audi’s brakes pulled me up sharp as I angled to the right to minimise any impact from cars behind running into me which could have pushed me into the car in front. I couldn’t go further to the right and into safety as I saw another driver cutting late across the lanes and into the slip road hemming me in.
