558 – Keep those alloys up to scratch…without any damage

ME and alloys aren’t always the best of friends when it comes to washing them.

The rest of the car I’m happy to soap and chamois down; but when it comes to the alloys I always miss bits. Not badly, but never quite good enough. And I always think: ‘I must get an alloy wheel cleaner’.

And I think I’ve just found it. I’ve always liked Autoglym car care products: they just do what it says on the outside of the canister really well. And now they have an acid-free wheel cleaner. There’s a trigger spray bottle that just squirts the biodegradable cleaner onto the alloys, a couple of brushes, and job done! (Well, I think you have to wiggle the brushes around a bit to effectively dislodge lingering brake dust, but you take my point.)

Autoglym says that you can use its Custom Wheel Cleaner on plastic trims, lacquered alloys, polished chrome and aluminium and anodised wheels. It apparently doesn’t affect the look of your brake callipers either.

Marvellous. A trip down to Halfords is called for! The wheels on my Audi A6 won’t look the same again. Hopefully.
