IT’S not often I blog about senior management changes in the automotive industry. But Ford is Ford – the market leader.

From August 15, 2011, Mark Ovenden replaces Nigel Sharp as managing director of Ford, who has decided to retire having reached 65 following 39 years with the Blue Oval marque.

Mark is no stranger to the UK market, having been director of marketing from March 2006. His most recent appointment was heading up the rapidly expanding Russian market.

He joins Ford at a time the Ford brand is beginning to look excitingly strong. Its cars are, with some minor exceptions, excellent. The quality is good, the specifications well thought through, and some of the technology available – such as the
